Virtual care basics
Read online-doctor guidanceWho can use this online walk-in service?+
AlbertaMD’s phone-visit booking path is for people who are physically located in Alberta. Book your visit now and complete registration there. The clinic reviews location, registration information, and care suitability before deciding whether a virtual visit is appropriate.
What happens after I book on Ava?+
Select an offered phone slot and complete registration, including health-card details, inside Ava. Follow Ava’s booking status and instructions for the next step. This website has no patient intake or callback-request form. Virtual care, a prescription, referral, or document depend on clinical review.
Coverage and your visit
Read about coverage and costsIs a virtual visit covered by Alberta Health?+
A valid Alberta Health Care card and active AHCIP coverage are required. You must be physically in Alberta. Eligible medically necessary doctor visits are covered by AHCIP for patients with a valid Alberta Health Care card and active coverage. This refers to the doctor consultation. Medication costs and uninsured services are separate.
Hours and next steps
When can I book a phone visit?+
Book your visit now to see published phone slots for today or upcoming days, subject to availability. Select an offered slot and complete registration inside Ava. No same-day slot or turnaround is promised. For a possible emergency, call 911 or seek immediate emergency care rather than waiting for a phone visit.
What happens after I book?+
Follow Ava’s booking status and instructions after selecting an offered phone slot and completing registration, including health-card details, inside Ava. This website has no patient intake or callback-request form. Booking does not guarantee a prescription, referral, document, or other clinical outcome.
Medication renewal questions
Read medication-renewal guidanceCan I ask about an established blood-pressure medication refill?+
AlbertaMD reviews routine requests for established non-controlled medications, including blood-pressure medication. Book your visit now, select an offered phone slot, and complete registration there, then keep the medication name, dose, current supply, pharmacy details, and any health questions for the clinician conversation. A clinician decides whether a renewal, another assessment, a pharmacy conversation, or another next step is appropriate. No refill is automatic.
Can I ask about an established diabetes medication refill?+
You can book on Ava to discuss a routine medication question. Keep medication details and health questions for the clinician conversation, not this website, which has no patient intake form. A clinician decides whether a renewal is appropriate and whether another assessment, pharmacy conversation, or care setting is needed. No refill is automatic.
Which medication renewal requests are not available online?+
AlbertaMD does not offer online renewal of pain medications, controlled medications, or similar restricted medicines through an online walk-in request. For another medication, a request still needs clinician review and does not guarantee a refill, prescription, dose change, or visit.
Sick notes and documentation
Read approved sick-note informationAre AlbertaMD sick notes covered by AHCIP?+
Alberta lists medical forms and notes among services not covered by AHCIP. AlbertaMD’s $40 sick-note fee applies only when a physician decides after assessment that an eligible note is clinically appropriate. A medically necessary physician assessment and an uninsured document are separate questions. This page cannot make an individual coverage decision.
How does the $40 AlbertaMD sick-note fee work?+
An AlbertaMD sick note costs $40 with no tax only when a physician decides after assessment that it is clinically appropriate. Payment is collected after assessment through the clinic’s approved process, not on this website, which has no patient intake or callback-request form. It is documentation only and does not guarantee a note, delivery, acceptance, or an appointment.
Can a sick note be completed within two hours?+
For a request received by 8:00pm, an eligible note may be completed within two hours after physician assessment when clinically appropriate and the workflow can support it. This is not guaranteed. More assessment, an in-person visit, another care setting, or more time may be needed. Requests received after 8:00pm do not use the two-hour target. A request does not guarantee an assessment, note, timing, delivery, or acceptance outcome.
How would I receive a sick note if the physician issues one?+
If a physician issues a note after assessment, the clinic may send a PDF by email through its approved consent and identity-verification process. Delivery, timing, and acceptance by an employer, school, or other recipient are not guaranteed. Do not send forms, health details, or payment information through this website; it has no patient intake or upload form.

Virtual care basics
Read online-doctor guidanceWhat kinds of concerns may be appropriate for virtual care?+
Virtual care may be useful for some minor illnesses, medication questions, lab-result review, follow-up care, some mental health concerns, and certain skin concerns. The physician decides whether a virtual assessment is appropriate in your situation.
When should I choose urgent or emergency care instead?+
If you have severe symptoms, possible emergency symptoms, or are unsure whether it is safe to wait, call 911 or seek immediate in-person assessment. Do not use the online booking path for emergencies.
Can I use an AlbertaMD phone booking for a possible poison or drug exposure?+
No. For a possible poison or drug exposure, contact Alberta’s Poison and Drug Information Service (PADIS) directly. If someone is unconscious, not breathing, or having a seizure, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Do not wait for an AlbertaMD phone visit or online response.
What if the physician thinks I need an in-person exam?+
The physician may recommend an in-person clinic, urgent care, emergency department, laboratory, or another care setting when that is safer or more appropriate.
Preparing for a visit
Read the visit-preparation guideHow should I prepare?+
Choose a private, quiet location and have a concise description of what you would like to discuss available. Complete booking and registration, including health-card details, only inside Ava; this website has no patient intake or callback-request form. Keep medications, allergies, and relevant history ready for the clinic conversation rather than entering them on this website.
What technology will I need?+
Ava booking and registration can be completed on a phone, tablet, or computer. Select an offered phone slot and follow Ava’s status and instructions. If the clinic confirms that a virtual visit may be appropriate, it will provide the relevant communication and technical instructions.
How can I prepare for a possible child virtual-care conversation?+
If it is safe to begin with a health question, prepare a short timeline, what has changed, relevant medicines, allergies, health history, current location, callback number, and questions for the care team. A clinician decides whether a virtual conversation or another setting is appropriate for a child.
What if the connection drops?+
Follow Ava’s booking status and instructions, including any clinic-provided backup contact method and instructions for reconnecting. If your symptoms become urgent while waiting, seek emergency care rather than waiting for the connection to resume.
Is my information private?+
This website has no patient intake or callback-request form and does not collect registration, symptoms, health history, medications, allergies, payment, health-card numbers, or document uploads. Booking and registration, including health-card details, take place only inside Ava. Review Ava’s privacy information and follow its instructions. A full privacy-policy review is still required for the clinic’s broader records, retention, and care-delivery workflow.
Can I share photos or documents?+
Not through this website; it has no patient intake or upload form. The physician may explain whether a photo or document would help after a request is reviewed and whether an in-person assessment is still needed.
Care plans and follow-up
Read about phone bookings and clinical reviewWill I get a prescription, referral, lab requisition, sick note, or medical form?+
No specific outcome can be promised. The physician will decide whether any medication, referral, requisition, documentation, or follow-up is clinically appropriate after assessment.
How will I receive my care plan?+
A production workflow should explain the secure method for receiving follow-up instructions, prescriptions, requisitions, referrals, or other documents when they are clinically appropriate.
Can controlled medications be prescribed through a virtual visit?+
This site does not offer controlled-medication requests. Prescribing decisions are clinical and subject to professional requirements; an in-person assessment or an established clinical relationship may be necessary.
What if I need follow-up care?+
The physician may arrange a further virtual visit, recommend in-person assessment, or explain the appropriate next care setting. Follow-up is based on the concern and the care plan, not a one-size-fits-all sequence.
Coverage and your visit
Read about coverage and costsWill I have to pay for a virtual visit?+
Eligible medically necessary doctor visits are covered by AHCIP for patients with a valid Alberta Health Care card and active coverage. This refers to the doctor consultation. Medication costs and uninsured services are separate. AlbertaMD does not collect payment on this website, which has no patient intake or callback-request form, and no uninsured fee is displayed unless it has been verified.
What if the clinic needs more coverage information?+
The clinic will contact you if it needs to confirm coverage details through an approved workflow. Complete registration, including health-card details, only inside Ava, not on this website.
What if I need to change my phone slot?+
Follow Ava’s booking status and instructions for changing a booking. Select only a phone slot offered in Ava; another time is not guaranteed.
Hours and next steps
Can I book for an upcoming day or weekend?+
Ava is the only booking path and shows published phone slots for today or upcoming days, subject to availability. Advance booking is available for offered slots; do not assume a weekend or same-day slot is offered. Follow Ava’s booking status and instructions. No turnaround is promised.
Sick notes and documentation
Read approved sick-note informationCan I get a sick note without a physician assessment?+
No. A physician must assess the request and decide whether a note is clinically appropriate and what can accurately be documented. Book your visit now, select an offered phone slot, and complete registration there; this website has no patient intake or callback-request form. Any assessment or documentation depends on clinical review. A sick note is documentation, not treatment. For treatment needs, use an appropriate in-person doctor or urgent-care setting; for a possible emergency, call 911.
Online doctor information by community
Browse Alberta virtual-care community guidesCan I use AlbertaMD if I live in a smaller Alberta town?+

Choose a city or smaller-town guide to see how the same virtual-care path works in your community, then book on Ava when you are ready. Select an offered phone slot, complete registration inside Ava, and follow Ava’s booking status and instructions.
Mental-health support in Alberta
Read mental-health support navigationWhat should I do if I need immediate mental-health crisis support?+
If you or someone else may be in immediate danger, may harm themselves or another person, or needs crisis support, do not wait for an AlbertaMD phone visit. Call or text 988, call 911, go to the nearest emergency department, or use an official immediate crisis service.
How can I find mental-health support in Alberta?+
Use an appropriate in-person healthcare professional or care setting for individual health guidance and 211 Alberta for community and social-service resource navigation. The appropriate option depends on the urgency and the individual situation. AlbertaMD does not assess crisis safety or promise a callback, clinician, referral, medication, or treatment outcome for mental-health concerns.
Alberta health card and fees
Read Alberta health-card coverage guidanceWhat should I have ready for a virtual visit in Alberta?+

Book your visit now, select an offered phone slot, and complete registration, including health-card details, only inside Ava. This website has no patient intake or callback-request form; do not enter a health-card number or other health details through the website. The clinic may request identity or coverage details through an approved workflow if needed.
How is an eligible covered virtual visit billed?+
A valid Alberta Health Care card and active AHCIP coverage are required. You must be physically in Alberta. Eligible medically necessary doctor visits are covered by AHCIP for patients with a valid Alberta Health Care card and active coverage. This refers to the doctor consultation. Medication costs and uninsured services are separate. AlbertaMD does not collect payment on this website, which has no patient intake or callback-request form.
Why might the clinic verify my health-card details?+
The clinic may confirm coverage details through an approved workflow so eligible covered visits can be billed correctly to Alberta Health. Complete registration, including health-card details, only inside Ava, not on this website.
Can I use a mobile health card for a virtual visit?+
Alberta’s Mobile Health Card is a digital health card that can replace a paper health card. This website has no patient intake or callback-request form and does not accept a health-card number, card image, Alberta Wallet details, or account credentials. Complete registration, including health-card details, only inside Ava and follow its instructions. If the clinic needs to verify coverage, it will explain the approved process. Having a card does not confirm coverage, an appointment, a virtual visit, or any other care outcome.
What if I am unsure whether my Alberta coverage is active?+
Do not send a health-card number through this website; registration occurs only inside Ava. The clinic may explain an approved coverage-verification process if needed. A public page cannot determine individual coverage, an appointment, or a care outcome.
Can I send my health-card details through the general contact form?+
No. Do not share health-card details through a general contact form. This website has no patient intake or callback-request form. Complete registration, including health-card details, only inside Ava.
