Important: This article is general information, not medical advice. Virtual care is not appropriate for every concern. For a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

01

Use immediate support for a crisis or safety concern

If you or someone else may be in immediate danger, may harm themselves or another person, or needs crisis support, do not wait for a clinic callback or an online response. Call or text 988, call 911, go to the nearest emergency department, or use another immediate official crisis support.

MyHealth Alberta’s crisis guidance makes clear that an emergency or safety concern needs immediate help. A public information page cannot assess safety, determine urgency, or replace a crisis responder, emergency department, or mental-health professional.

02

Start with official Alberta support navigation

Recovery Alberta identifies its mental-health helpline as a 24/7 confidential service for support, information, and referrals for Albertans experiencing mental-health concerns. It also identifies 211 Alberta as a province-wide way to find community and social resources.

Official Alberta mental-health and community services can help a person understand available next steps; they do not replace emergency response when safety is at risk. Use the responsible official service for current contact information and scope.

03

Keep the next step practical and private

When it is safe to seek support, write down the official service you plan to contact, a reliable number, and any practical question you want to ask. You may also choose a trusted person who can help you connect to support, if that feels right for you.

Do not send personal crisis details, health-card information, records, screenshots, or account credentials through a general website contact form. Use the official service or an approved healthcare communication channel for sensitive personal information.

04

Know what this page does not do

This page provides general navigation information only. It does not assess symptoms, diagnose a condition, recommend treatment, provide counselling, or determine whether a virtual, in-person, crisis, or emergency service is right for a particular person.

AlbertaMD does not promise availability, a callback, a clinician, a referral, medication, or a treatment outcome for mental-health concerns. Use the official routes above for immediate support or navigation, and follow any care plan from your own healthcare team.

FAQ

Common patient questions.

These answers explain the current information and review process.

What should I do if I need immediate mental-health crisis support in Alberta?

If you may be in immediate danger, may harm yourself or someone else, or need crisis support, call or text 988, call 911, go to the nearest emergency department, or use another immediate official crisis service. Do not wait for an AlbertaMD callback request.

Can official Alberta resources help me find mental-health support?

Official Alberta mental-health and community resources can provide current navigation information. The appropriate option depends on urgency and the individual situation; use 988, 911, emergency care, or another immediate official crisis service when safety is at risk.

Can AlbertaMD assess a mental-health crisis through a callback request?

No. AlbertaMD’s callback request is not monitored for crisis or emergency needs and does not assess safety, diagnose, provide counselling, or promise a clinical outcome. Use immediate official crisis or emergency support when needed.
