01

Start with official Alberta palliative-care information

MyHealth Alberta and Alberta Health Services publish current public information about palliative and end-of-life-care services, caregiver supports, advance-care planning, grief resources, and ways to find official services. These resources are a starting point for people and families who want current Alberta information.

This page is general navigation only. It does not determine whether palliative care is appropriate, assess a person’s symptoms, recommend a service, or decide what is right for an individual or family.

02

Use official service information for current options

MyHealth Alberta explains that palliative and end-of-life care may be provided through different settings, including home and community care, continuing-care homes, hospices, and hospitals. The responsible official program and the person’s healthcare team provide the current information for an individual situation.

AlbertaMD does not arrange home care, hospice, hospital, continuing-care, consult-team, or other palliative services; confirm availability, costs, wait times, placement, or eligibility; or decide how a person should access care. Use the official Alberta resource and current healthcare team for those questions.

03

Use the right official contact route

For community, social, or government services, use 211 Alberta. If you are unsure where to go, contact an appropriate in-person healthcare professional or care setting for individual guidance. These routes do not replace emergency services or the responsible healthcare team.

Do not send personal or health information by email. Alberta Health Services notes that email is not secure for this purpose. Use the official service or current healthcare team’s approved contact route for personal circumstances.

04

Use emergency care when an emergency may be happening

If someone may be having a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Do not wait for a general website response, a service search, or an AlbertaMD callback request.

This page does not assess symptoms, determine urgency, diagnose a condition, recommend treatment, make a palliative-care decision, or replace the responsible healthcare team. Use emergency services, official Alberta resources, and the person’s own care team for information that fits the situation.
