Important: This article is general information, not medical advice. Virtual care is not appropriate for every concern. For a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
AHCIP coverage and forms are different questions
Alberta’s AHCIP coverage page lists medical forms and notes among services not covered by AHCIP. It also lists health services requested by a third party, such as employment or insurance medicals, among services not covered.
That does not decide the coverage of an individual clinical assessment, the appropriateness of a document, or an AlbertaMD process. It explains why a document should not automatically be treated as an insured service.
A possible fee is not a universal price
CPSA says patients can be billed directly for sick-note writing and other services not covered by Alberta Health Care, and that patients should be advised in advance. This does not establish a province-wide or AlbertaMD-specific fee.
If a clinician decides documentation is appropriate, ask the clinic about its current process and any possible fee. Do not assume the public request form confirms a price, bill, or document.
Coverage is separate from the requesting organization’s policy
Whether an employer, school, insurer, or benefits administrator asks for a document is a separate question from AHCIP coverage. Requirements can vary by policy, agreement, leave type, and circumstances.
For workplace medical information, Alberta Human Rights Commission guidance emphasizes information relevant to an absence, return date, restrictions, or accommodation. A diagnosis is generally not required except in limited circumstances.
Keep the request path separate from coverage claims
For a non-emergency health concern, an AlbertaMD public request starts clinic review. The clinic reviews the request and contacts the person about the next step. It does not confirm an appointment, callback time, virtual visit, sick note, certificate, prescription, coverage, fee, or any other outcome.
For a medical emergency, call 911 or seek immediate emergency assessment instead of waiting for a documentation question or an online request.
