Important: This article is general information, not medical advice. Virtual care is not appropriate for every concern. For a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
There is no single Alberta sick-note price
The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta says patients may be billed directly for services that are not covered by Alberta Health Care, including writing sick notes. That does not create one province-wide price or confirm what any particular clinic charges.
If a document may be appropriate, ask the clinic about its current process and any possible fee before assuming a cost. This article does not verify an AlbertaMD fee or say that a note will be issued.
Coverage and documentation are different questions
Alberta’s AHCIP information lists medical forms and notes among services that are not covered. A medically necessary clinical assessment and a third-party document are separate questions, so one does not automatically decide the other.
A request for a note is also separate from whether a workplace, school, insurer, or benefit plan requires it. Check the current policy of the organization that requested documentation.
Check the relevant leave or absence rule
For Alberta personal and family responsibility leave, legislation does not require a medical certificate, although an employer may have its own documentation policy. Long-term illness and injury leave has different certificate requirements for eligible employees.
Employment contracts, collective agreements, school policies, and individual circumstances can also matter. This is general information, not legal or employment advice for a specific absence.
Keep a request separate from a promised document
For a non-emergency health concern, an AlbertaMD public request starts clinic review. The clinic reviews the request and contacts the person about the next step. It does not confirm an appointment, callback time, virtual visit, sick note, certificate, prescription, coverage, fee, or any other outcome.
For a medical emergency, call 911 or seek immediate emergency assessment instead of waiting for a documentation question or an online request.
Common patient questions.
Ready to start? For an eligible non-emergency concern, start your visit form when you are ready; the clinic reviews each request. Call 911 for an emergency or seek prompt professional assessment when a concern cannot wait.
Is there one standard sick-note price in Alberta?
No. CPSA says sick-note writing may be billed directly when it is not covered by Alberta Health Care, but this does not establish one provincial or clinic-specific price.
Does AHCIP coverage of a doctor visit mean a sick note is covered?
No. Alberta’s AHCIP information lists medical forms and notes among services that are not covered. The clinical assessment and any third-party documentation are separate questions.
Can an AlbertaMD request confirm a sick-note fee or result?
For a non-emergency health concern, an AlbertaMD public request starts clinic review. The clinic reviews the request and contacts the person about the next step. It does not confirm an appointment, callback time, virtual visit, sick note, certificate, prescription, coverage, fee, or any other outcome.
