Important: This article is general information, not medical advice. Virtual care is not appropriate for every concern. For a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

01

General migraine information is not an individual assessment

MyHealth Alberta says a migraine can last from several hours to a few days without treatment. That general information cannot tell whether an individual headache is a migraine or determine a safe care setting.

A clinician considers the person’s history, symptoms, and other possible causes. An article cannot set an absence length, approve a note, or choose a treatment plan.

02

Keep emergency headache symptoms separate from paperwork

MyHealth Alberta directs people to call 911 for stroke signs or a sudden severe headache that is different from prior headaches. Do not wait for an online request or documentation question in a possible emergency.

Other concerning or changing symptoms may need prompt individual assessment. This page does not diagnose a headache or replace emergency care.

03

Work documentation focuses on relevant information

Alberta Human Rights Commission guidance says workplace medical information may relate to an absence, return date, or work-related restrictions and limitations. A diagnosis is generally not required except in limited circumstances.

An employer, school, or insurer has its own current process. This article does not decide whether a migraine-related absence or accommodation will be accepted.

04

Start with a reviewed request, not a promised result

For a non-emergency health concern, an AlbertaMD public request starts clinic review. The clinic reviews the request and contacts the person about the next step. It does not confirm an appointment, callback time, virtual visit, sick note, certificate, prescription, coverage, fee, or any other outcome.

For a medical emergency, call 911 or seek immediate emergency assessment instead of waiting for a documentation question or an online request.
